Department of Applied Economics and Management, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York
This post-doc in Prof. Chris Barrett’s research group will be expected to develop high quality, peer-reviewed publishable research, to supervise graduate and undergraduate research assistants, and to contribute to the development of successful grant proposals. Specific research tasks will be determined based on the successful applicant’s skills and interests, but should relate to the group’s established research program. Demonstrated expertise and interest in issues of agricultural development, poverty dynamics, risk analysis, impact evaluation, and/or market institutions are especially desirable. Some opportunity for undergraduate or graduate instruction exists if the successful candidate desires classroom teaching opportunities with excellent students.
The successful applicant will have earned a Ph.D. in economics, agricultural and resource economics or a closely related field by August 2010, with strong microeconomic theory and applied econometrics skills. The position requires a team orientation, excellent oral and written communications skills in English, prior experience in international rural development, in the collection and management of household-level data, and in writing estimation code in Stata, Gauss and/or Matlab, and a willingness to travel internationally.
The position is for two years, and is renewable. Cornell offers a generous benefits package, a rich intellectual environment in economics and international development, and an attractive college town setting in the lovely Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.
Applicants should send a CV, at least one research paper, and a description of current and medium-term research interests, and have three letters of reference sent to:
