Affiliated Institutions
In addition to Cornell, eight other universities are affiliated with
the Institute as subcontractors. They are identified in the list of
projects.
History of the National Institute for Commodity
Promotion Research and Evaluation
The National Institute for Commodity Promotion Research and Evaluation
was funded initially by a CSRS Special Grant in April 1994. The Institute
is an offshoot of the Committee on Commodity Promotion Research (NEC-63).
A component of the land grant committee structure to coordinate research
in agriculture and related fields, NEC-63 was established in 1985 to
foster quality research and dialogue on the economics of commodity promotion.
Advisory Committee
The Advisory Committee has representatives from commodity promotion
organizations, universities, and government agencies with program oversight
responsibilities. The Advisory Committee provides overall direction
for the Institute's operating policy and research efforts, and reviews
results of the Institute's sponsored research. Advisory Committee members
are:

The Steering Committee provides technical advice on research priorities,
operating policy, and research methods. Members are:

Institute Objectives
The five objectives of the Institute are:
- Support, coordinate, and conduct studies to identify key economic
relationships, and assess the impact of domestic and export commodity
promotion programs on farmers, consumers, and the food industry.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive databases relating to commodity
promotion research and evaluation.
- Facilitate the coordination of multi-commodity and multi-country
research and evaluation efforts.
- Enhance both public and private policy-makers' understanding
of the economics of commodity promotion programs.
- Facilitate the development of new theory and research methodology.
