Admissions

Transfer Students

Students transfer into the Department of Applied Economics and Management either as:

External transfers: students from other universities
Intra-University transfers: students from other colleges at Cornell
Intra-CALS transfers: students from other departments in CALS

External Transfers

External transfers must apply for admission through the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Visit Transfer Admissions for information on how to transfer, preparatory coursework for admission, and the timetable for admissions.

Are you an international student? Please visit Undergraduate Admissions for special international admissions requirements and procedures for external transfer students.

Intra-University transfers

Intra-university transfers also apply for admission through CALS. They must first meet several requirements, including the Undergraduate Business Program's transfer requirements.

You must attend an information session that covers the application process, timelines, and requirements. Internal transfer applications will be distributed at these sessions. Students who do not attend an information session will not receive an application. The Admissions Committee does not meet with students interested in pursuing the internal transfer process on an individual basis.

Information sessions during the fall 2009 semester are scheduled for:
• Wednesday, September 16, 3 p.m., 260 Warren Hall
• Tuesday, October 20, 2 p.m., 145 Warren Hall
• Thursday, November 19, 3 p.m., 232 Warren Hall

You must also meet with AEM's Undergraduate Advising Coordinator, Professor Dale Grossman (114 Warren Hall). Professor Grossman’s office hours are posted outside her door and on the AEM 3200 course web site in Blackboard. The purpose of the meeting is to fully understand the major requirements and their implications for completing the required courses within the usual four-year undergraduate program. Bring your current transcript to this meeting. Professor Grossman will complete and return the Internal Transfer Faculty Contact Form to the CALS Admissions Office.

For addition information on intra-Cornell transfers, please contact CALS Admissions.

Intra-CALS Transfers

Intra-CALS transfers are admitted directly by the Undergraduate Business Program. After meeting the transfer requirements, please complete the application-to-transfer form that is available in 146 Warren Hall. You will also need to schedule a meeting with Arla Hourigan (146 Warren Hall, 255-8472) or Dale Grossman (114 Warren Hall; Prof. Grossman's office hours are posted on the AEM 3200 course web site in the fall and on the AEM 3210 course web site in the spring).

Intra-CALS transfer applications are due no later than the last day of classes each semester. You will be notified of the decision by e-mail on approximately January 15 or June 15.

Jules Hough '06
My first semester as a transfer student at Cornell was wonderful. I found the Undergraduate Business Program to be top-notch. The course work was demanding and invigorating.
What struck me most about the program were the great professors I came in contact with throughout the semester. Each one truly cared about the subject area he or she was teaching. They wanted the students to not only learn the material, but to enjoy the subject matter as much as they do.”
The decision to transfer from North Carolina State was a difficult one to make. But I am very pleased that I elected to come to Cornell.
